Tidal Resonance

We have lived far too hard
Too long…
Already, by now.
And it is a painful discovery of
Reasons.
Hard becomes harder while you’re
Digging,
While your pockets are full,
Sagging,
Dragging you down
Closer,
Closer to the object
That you sought out
For the day
To make sense
Of  just one of those reasons.

Like your Mother’s afraid of your decisions.

And scrubbing, the wash becomes
Longer,
For the cleaner you make
The object you
Found,
The fuzzier the vision in
Seeing:
Exactly what you’ve done to the meaning
Of what you sought and found.
This is how ignorance resounds,
And laughs out loud at our
Efforts:
To understand the sound of our
Living,
Of our moving from one room,
From house to house…
And dying in the process of the motion.
Like the slow talk of gulls over the
Ocean,
Plunging and resurfacing,
With life in the mouth of its
Ending.
